HMD Global rolls out Android 8.0 Oreo update for Nokia 8

HMD Global has started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for its Nokia 8 smartphone. The company was testing the Oreo update for the Nokia 8 in the Nokia labs beta program and the Nokia 8 is their first smartphone to get the latest Android update. The update is 1518.1MB in size and updates the Nokia 8 to the November Android security patch.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, recently tweeted that the Oreo update has officially started rolling out. In his replies to user’s queries, he also stated that the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones are next in line to receive the update and the open Beta Labs for the devices will start soon. HMD Global previously introduced the Nokia phones beta labs for Nokia 8 users. Users can sign up for testing the Android 8.0 Oreo beta version with one condition that they must be using a Nokia 8 smartphone. The beta labs allowed Nokia 8 users to test and report bugs before the Oreo update was ready for a general roll out.

Nokia 8 was launched back in September in India priced at Rs 36,999. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC and comes with 4GB RAM. It features 64GB of onboard storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. The Nokia 8 sports a 5.3-Inch QHD screen with an 'Always On' display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

The Nokia 8 features a 13MP dual rear camera setup and comes with a 13MP front-facing camera. Both the cameras are equipped with ZEISS optics. The smartphone is powered by a 3,090mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
