Samsung to limit charging on Galaxy Note7 in US with software update
Samsung also plans to issue a pop-up reminder to return their product every time a user reboots, charges or turns on the screen of the device
Samsung says most Galaxy Note7 users in the US have returned their devices. For those who haven't, it plans to limit the charging capabilities of their device. Samsung says nearly 85 percent of the recalled Galaxy Note7 devices have been replaced with majority of the participants opting to receive another Samsung smartphone.
Earlier there were reports indicating Note7 owners were unwilling to return their device having paid nearly $800 for the product. In order to convince them to return their device, Samsung is planning to issue a software update that will limit the charging capacity to 60 percent. Samsung also plans to issue a pop-up reminder to return their product every time a user reboots, charges or turns on the screen of the device.
"We remain focused on collecting the outstanding Galaxy Note7 phones in the market," Samsung said in a statement.
This is not the first time Samsung is issuing the update to limit charging. Samsung has issued a similar in other markets and recently announced plans to limit Note7 users from accessing mobile networks in New Zealand. Samsung feels these measures will force customers to turn in their device for a replacement product.
