Nikon's new D5600 DSLR is basically the D5500...with Bluetooth
Nikon has thrown its low-power Bluetooth technology, Snapbridge and in-camera time lapse shooting, apart from which the D5600 remains exactly the same.
Nikon has officially announced its latest mid-range DSLR camera earlier today, the D5600. A follow up to the very competent Nikon D5500, the D5600 seems to follow Nikon's principle of incremental improvement by only adding Snapbridge, Nikon's own low power Bluetooth connectivity to transfer data to smartphones, and an in-camera time lapse movie function. If you were expecting a significant jump in terms of a new image sensor, processor, faster continuous shooting and the likes, you're in for a longer wait.
The Nikon D5600 uses the same, 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor that has headlined Nikon's lineup of DX format cameras for a while now. It also retains the same EXPEED 4 image processor, along with native ISO support of up to ISO 25600, a 3.2-inch vari-angle touchscreen LCD with resolution of 1,037,000 dots, and the much-lauded Multi-CAM 4800DX 39-point AF module with through-the-lens (TTL) phase detection and nine cross-type AF points. In-camera time lapse movie shooting joins all of this, and Nikon has added exposure smoothing here to make up for imbalance in exposure in frames where light changes naturally. The Nikon D5500 was quite impressive when it came to ISO performance, so naturally, we expect the D5600 to perform equally well, too.
Prices are yet to be announced, but we expect the camera to retail upward of Rs. 55,000 for the body, while lens kits may be introduced from Rs. 60,000 onward. The camera will sell in three kits - 18-55mm AF-P f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, 18-140mm AF-S f/3.5-5.6G ED VR single lens kits, and a dual-lens kit with the former lens and a 70-300mm AF-P f/4.5-6.3G ED VR telephoto lens. The Nikon D5600 kits will be available in India from late November, although interestingly, the camera is not being introduced in the United States of America, yet.
