Xiaomi VP admits not launching 64GB Mi5 in India was a mistake
Hugo Barra has said that the 32GB variant of the Mi 5 was sold because of price considerations
Xiaomi VP, Hugo Barra has accepted that not launching the 64GB variant of the Mi 5 in India was a mistake. In an interview with reporters, Barra said that the 32GB variant of the Mi 5 was sold because of price considerations and was the wrong idea. He was answering a question on whether Xiaomi was actively trying to not surpass the Rs. 25,000 price bracket.
The Xiaomi Mi 5unveiled at MWC earlier this year and had three variants. The two base variants offered 32GB and 64GB of storage, while the Pro variant offers 128GB of storage along with 4GB of RAM. However, when the company launched the device in India, it only launched the 32GB variant. The company recently launched an upgraded version of the Mi 5 called the Mi 5s, alongside a large version called the Mi 5s Plus.
Xiaomi today announced the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and Xiaomi Mi Mix in China. Interestingly, while both are high-end smartphones, they will not be brought to India either. According to Barra, the company currently wants to launch only one flagship product in India per year. He said while Xiaomi may, in future, be able to launch more than one flagship in India, for now, it chooses not to do so.
