Samsung rolls out Galaxy Note 7 battery update as reminder for users to replace device

The update will limit the charge to 60% and will start rolling out in Europe from October 31

About a month ago, Samsung released an update for its ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, which limited the maximum battery charge to 60%. The aim of that update was to reduce the odds of the phone catching fire. Now though, the company is rolling out a similar update in Europe. This time however, the company is hoping that the update will act as a reminder for any users in Europe still clinging to their phones, to finally get it exchanged. The update will start rolling out from October 31.

Conor Pierce, Vice President of IT & Mobile, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland stated, “Our absolute priority continues to be customer safety. This new battery software update is specifically designed to remind all Galaxy Note7 customers to replace their device at their earliest possible convenience through their local Galaxy Note7 Replacement Programme. We once again would like to apologise for not meeting the standard of product excellence that our customers have come to expect from Samsung and we sincerely thank them for their continued understanding and cooperation.”

The company already has a replacement program in place and gives Note 7 users the option of either exchanging their device for a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, with a refund of the price difference, or obtain a full refund. It has also asked all Note 7 owners to power down and stop using their devices.
