Huawei unveils its new flagship-grade Kirin 960 SoC

Huawei has unveiled its newest flagship chipset, the Kirin 960. The new octa-core SoC sports four Cortex A73 cores and four Cortex A53 cores, and is produced using TSMC’s 16nm FinFET processor. Further, it is equipped with ARM’s Mali-G71 MP8 GPU.

PlayfulDroid reports that the new Kirin 960 offers 15% improvement in CPU efficiency, 20% increase in GPU efficiency, and 180% boost in graphics performance as compared to the previous generation of chipsets. Further, the SoC supports UFS2.1 standard storage and LPDDR4 memory. It also sports an LTE Cat.12/ Cat.13 modem that’s capable of reaching download speeds up to 600Mbps, and upload speeds of up to 150Mbps. The chipset supports CDMA with radio frequencies ranging from 330MHz to 3.8GHz. The Kirin 960 will also be the first to feature Huawei’s new Image Signal Processor.

During the launch, the company also showed slideshows in which it compared its new SoC against other flagship chipsets like the Exynos 8890, Snapdragon 821, Apple A10, as well as the Kirin 950. As per the slideshows, the new chipset was second only to the A10 in the Geekbench single core test and topped the Geekbench multi core test.
